West Ham United has reportedly reached an agreement to purchase midfielder Harry Maguire from Manchester United for a transfer fee of £30 million. Additionally, there are rumors that West Ham has expressed interest in acquiring striker Anthony Martial from Manchester United as well. Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is allegedly keen on offloading Martial, who has had a disappointing season with the club. Despite Martial’s talent, MU co-owner Joel Glazer has denied previous attempts to sell him, blocking Jose Mourinho’s efforts in the past. However, it appears that Ten Hag has now convinced the owners to consider selling Martial as part of a squad overhaul.
West Ham’s interest in Martial comes as they are in search of a new striker following the sale of Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta. Talks between West Ham and Martial are said to be in the early stages, and no significant progress has been made. Both parties, however, are open to a potential move at a fair price.
If Martial were to leave Manchester United, it would leave Rasmus Hojlund as the sole number 9 striker for the upcoming season. Manchester United previously lost Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo, leading them to borrow Wout Weghorst. Marcus Rashford, while primarily playing as a left striker, has been the team’s top scorer with 30 goals last season. Therefore, any offer for Martial would need to be sufficient for Ten Hag to acquire another striker.
In addition to the potential transfers of Maguire and Martial, Manchester United may also consider the departure of Scott McTominay. While Ten Hag is reluctant to let go of the Scotland international, a deal could be reached if Manchester United can secure the signing of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. Furthermore, players like Eric Bailly, Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek, and Brandon Williams could also leave Old Trafford.
