Photos: PSG players welcome ‘rookie’ returns to first team training

The drama of Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain has taken another turn, with a truce now appearing to be called. Mbappe’s contract expires in a year, and a settlement has yet to be reached between the club and the player. The France captain, on the other hand, is poised to be reintegrated into PSG’s first-team squad after missing Saturday’s goalless draw with Lorient.

Kylian Mbappe has returned to first-team training with Paris Saint-Germain, as the club-player feud looks to be easing for the time being. After refusing to sign a contract extension, the 24-year-old was left out of PSG’s pre-season tour of Asia, and he sat out the dreary goalless draw against Lorient on the first day of the Ligue 1 season.

He appeared to be on his way out of Paris this summer, with the club accepting a massive £259 million bid from Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Mbappe expressed little interest in a move to the Saudi Pro League club and reiterated he had no plans to leave the club this season, reiterating his desire to remain in Paris for at least another year.

On June 16, after a match between France and Gibraltar, he stated, “Staying at PSG is my only option for now.”According to Le Parisien, Mbappe is frustrated by the club’s lack of progress in the transfer market, as neither Robert Lewandowski nor Bernardo Silva arrived last year.

However, it looks like a compromise has been reached, with Mbappe now being reintegrated into the squad.

The club issued the following statement: “After very constructive and positive discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappe ahead of the PSG-Lorient match, the player was reinstated for first-team training this morning.”

The France captain has subsequently been removed from the club’s “loft” group of players deemed undesirable, but his long-term status remains unknown.

Mbappe has not signed a new contract with PSG and might leave for free next summer, with Real Madrid apparently poised to pounce.According to L’Equipe, Mbappe will meet with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on Sunday, and his future will undoubtedly be discussed.

PSG will want to return the focus to the field, with Luis Enrique’s team preparing for a meeting against Toulouse on Saturday.
