Before his first home match as a minority owner of English soccer team Birmingham City, NFL star Tom Brady got to know some of the people.
Brady stopped by The Roost, a pub near St. Andrew’s stadium, before Birmingham’s second-tier Championship game against Leeds on Saturday.
Brady had written a few hours earlier on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Any plans before kickoff guys?” “We’ll see you at St. Andrew’s.”
Brady then got to know the players by giving them a pep talk before the game, according to Birmingham manager John Eustace, after his team won 1-0 with a late goal.
“It’s fantastic to have one of the world’s most famous athletes come down and talk to the group,” Eustace remarked. “They were all very excited to hear him, and he gave us some excellent advice.” I believe you can see today that his presence at the club (is a positive), and the vision he has for the football club is incredible.”
The seven-time Super Bowl champion has joined forces with the club’s holding business, Knighthead Capital Management, and has been appointed chairman of a new advisory board.
Brady, according to Birmingham, will “apply his extensive leadership experience and expertise across several components of the club.” This involves collaborating with the sports science department to provide guidance on health, nutrition, and rehabilitation programs.
Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and will win another in 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He announced his retirement in February, following Tampa’s playoff loss.
