Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are allegedly anxious to sign Romeo Lavia ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool are attempting to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to the acquisition of Romeo Lavia from Southampton during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool and Southampton have struck a £60 million deal for Lavia, but the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners must now persuade Lavia to transfer to Anfield.
According to reports, Lavia favors a move to Chelsea
Liverpool is concerned about Chelsea’s challenge for Romeo Lavia.
Chelsea has made a bid of £55 million for the defensive midfielder and is attempting to complete a deal.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is “desperate to strengthen his midfield,” and the Reds’ “need for reinforcements in the middle is urgent.”
According to the source, Liverpool are expected to miss out on the transfer of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo to Chelsea and do not want to lose Lavia to the Blues as well.
Nizaar Kinsella of the London Evening Standard stated on Twitter that Chelsea are the frontrunners for Lavia, who has previously been regarded as “incredible” by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool must sign a defensive midfielder this summer
After all, the Reds have already lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the summer transfer window.
Lavia is only 19 years old and has made 29 Premier League appearances so far.
Although he has a lot of promise, we do not believe Liverpool should pay £60 million for the Belgium international defensive midfielder.
However, it appears that Chelsea’s interest in Lavia has pushed Liverpool to take extreme steps in order to complete a deal for the teenager.
