Manchester United’s new £72m signing, striker Rasmus Hojlund, is adjusting to his new surroundings as he enjoys a night out with his girlfriend.
Hojlund officially moved to Old Trafford last week, following lengthy negotiations with his former Italian club Atalanta, although it has been revealed that the Danish striker is undergoing treatment for a back injury that will limit the time his playing at the start of the season for Man United.
An MRI scan conducted as part of Hojlund’s medical examination revealed a back injury that could be the starting point of stress fractures in young players. Hojlund will not be able to feature in Man United’s first two games against Wolves and Tottenham.
But the 20-year-old appeared to have ignored the disappointing news about him, as he explored the city of Manchester and its nightlife with young lover Laura Sondergaard.
Hojlund walked downtown from the Lowry hotel in a white jacket, blue jeans, and white sneakers. Sondergaard wore a leather jacket over a white sweater and jeans and smiled at Hojlund as he walked beside him.
The Denmark international then waved goodbye when he saw a photographer pick up his camera, before continuing to enjoy his evening out. Hojlund’s girlfriend, Sondergaard, is known to regularly go to the stadium to watch the player’s matches and cheer him on.
The pair were once seen kissing after he scored a hat trick for Denmark against Finland in March. Sondergaard has nearly 9,000 followers on Instagram and regularly posts about his wonderful holidays. Miss.
Meanwhile, Hojlund hopes his back pain doesn’t keep him from missing too many United games as the young striker wants to make his mark at Old Trafford.
Man United has concluded after intensive medical examinations that there are no serious problems with Hojlund’s back and that all he needs is a short period of rest. The club’s initial reaction to the MRI scan was to give Hojlund more time to improve his fitness and reassure him that he was a long-term signing, not necessarily in a rush to play.
However, medical sources outside the club have revealed that such injuries need to be managed carefully. They also said Hojlund is unlikely to play two games a week for a long time, fearing developing a stress fracture, and he needs a long-term break.
After joining the Academy at FC Copenhagen, he made his first team debut at the age of 17 before being sold to Austrian club Sturm Graz in January 2022 and then joining Atalanta the following August for £15 million.
United paid almost five times that amount just 12 months later, in the face of competition from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Inter Milan. The Red Devils decided to continue signing the young Denmark international, despite identifying a back problem during Hojlund’s medical examination.
Coach Ten Hag is hoping to build a new attack around Hojlund’s goalscoring talent when he convinces Man United to give the young striker a five-year contract, including the option to extend it for another 12 months.
