Moises Caicedo’s mother made an appearance in the video her son used to announce his record-breaking move from Brighton to Chelsea on Monday.
Caicedo, 21, moved from Brighton to Chelsea in a deal worth more than £115 million.
Caicedo replaced Caicedo’s new Chelsea teammate Enzo Fernandez as the most expensive player in British soccer history thanks to the deal.
Liverpool, who had a £111 million deal accepted by Brighton last week, had also been interested in Caicedo.
Caicedo, though, turned down a transfer to Anfield because he was bent on playing for Chelsea.
When he was a teenager, Caicedo was seen wearing a Chelsea jersey. In the past, a picture of him dressed in Chelsea blue and sitting next to his mother in a car trunk went popular on social media.
In order to construct Caicedo’s introduction video, Chelsea reenacted the scene.
At Chelsea’s training facility, mother Carmen can be seen waiting for her son in the rear of a blue car.
When Moises arrives on the scene, his mother greets him by saying in Spanish: “Today is the day, my son.”
He replies: “Mum, do you remember when that photo was taken?”
“Yes son, I remember. It was in Cayambe in 2020,” she replies.
Moises then says: “A lot of time has passed since then but finally it’s happened.”
The video concludes with Carmen congratulating her son for fulfilling “the family’s dream”.
