Raya put pen to paper to sign a 2-year + 1-year optional extension with Brentford to keep the value of the player, the old contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Raya’s one-year loan from Brentford has a buy-back clause, subject to Arsenal’s discretion.
Raya will wear number 22, welcome to Emirates
David Raya is in the prime of his career. He helped Brentford win a place in the Premier League in 2021 and became a reliable keeper with 12 clean sheets last season.
The strong point of this goalkeeper is his reflexes and impressive ability to play the ball with his feet. Therefore, coach Mikel Arteta wants to bring Raya to compete directly with Aaron Ramsdale.
Before successfully signing Brentford’s keeper, Arsenal allowed number 2 goalkeeper Matt Turner to join Nottingham Forest for a fee of £ 15 million.
Brentford has also been proactive for a Raya-free future by signing Dutch international Mark Flekken for £11m from German club Freiburg in May.
