The world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has completed his move to Real Madrid from Chelsea on loan.
According to The Sun (UK), Kepa was recruited by Chelsea for £ 72 million in 2018 and holds the record for the most expensive goalkeeper in the world so far. However, the Spaniard will join Real Madrid on loan this summer.
The Bernabeu team was forced to rush to find a new goalkeeper after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered a torn cruciate ligament and was in danger of missing this whole season. The Royal team asked Kepa and Chelsea and received a nod.
In his first season with Chelsea, the goalkeeper born in 1994 made 54 appearances, helping the London team win the Europa League. Over the next four seasons, Kepa made 109 more appearances for the Blues, contributing to the Champions League, European Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup titles.
However, Kepa had a long period of decline in form and was replaced by Edouard Mendy in the 2020 season. However, the former Bilbao goalkeeper regained his place under coach Graham Potter last season.
But Chelsea’s signing of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton means Kepa has to leave this summer. Therefore, Kepa quickly accepted the invitation from Real Madrid to be able to regularly play the main game.
It is likely that Kepa will start for Real Madrid in the next match, which is the trip to Almeria’s field in the second round of La Liga 2023-2024.
