Ten Hag implored his team to bounce back from Sunday’s loss to Newcastle in his pre-game press conference, and they looked the superior team against Brentford from the opening whistle, taking the initiative and testing the London club.
Marcus Rashford scored the goal in the 28th minute following a lofted ball from Antony into the box and a knockdown from Marcel Sabitzer, who also supplied the assist. It didn’t take long for that dominance to be rewarded.

After a dull second half, Rashford scored a close-range goal that was enough to secure the three points.
After the 1-0 victory, McTominay spoke with MUTV on United’s grittier, more focused performance against Brentford, where they played well defensively in the closing minutes.
The lesson was to bounce back, according to McTominay. “I think the play was really fantastic in the first half, and we really controlled the game. We lacked a little bit of poise in the latter third of the second half.
They’re a pretty difficult squad to play against, but I think we really fought hard. For us, it’s about sticking together and fighting; there will be a squad game every third day for the foreseeable future near the finish of the season.

“It’s crucial that we have some talented guys returning. We’re crossing our fingers that we advance to every final, and the manager has emphasized to us that this is a team game in which we aim to take home three more trophies.
There are still a ton of games left to play, and we just need to be there. You never know [in the top four race].
Erik ten Hag hits back at Ian Wright as he hails Man Utd star for crucial Brentford role
In his post-game interview after Manchester United’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Brentford, Erik ten Hag was all praise for goalkeeper David de Gea.
Erik ten Hag responded to David de Gea’s detractors after the Manchester United goalkeeper produced a critical stop in the team’s victory over Brentford on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford’s goal gave United their first goal in three Premier League games as they defeated the Bees by a score of 1-0 at Old Trafford. Ten Hag needed the three points after a rough stretch that includes Liverpool’s 7-0 thumping, Southampton’s 0-0 stalemate, and Newcastle’s 2-0 setback.
Although though Brentford entered the match in excellent form, they did not produce many opportunities until the very end, when Kevin Schade, a replacement, faced up against De Gea. In his post-game media responsibilities, Ten Hag was quick to thank the veteran goalie for making the important save.

“When you need David, he is there, and mistakes can happen when you lose focus, he said on BBC’s Match of the Day. “We want to play without making mistakes like a machine. Fortunately, we made one error that didn’t help them, and David de Gea’s performance made up for it.
“This is undoubtedly a significant victory in the Premier League, especially versus Brentford. They had only lost one game in 16 (Premier League) contests. It is never easy to play against and defeat them, but we did, and for that I am happy for my squad today.
Ten Hag made his remarks after De Gea received criticism for the weekend loss to Newcastle. One of the commentators who singled out De Gea as a weak link that has to be strengthened in the summer was former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

He said: “The goalie problem – you listen to the Jacob Murphy interview and you don’t often hear something like that, it was fantastic to hear,” earlier in the week on the Wrighty’s House Podcast. The goalie needs to be addressed at some point. I want to see all of that before I pass too much judgment on Erik ten Hag.
Wright was making reference to an interview that Newcastle winger Murphy had given to Rio Ferdinand, in which he said that the Magpies had deliberately targeted De Gea on Sunday because they believed he was ineffective with the ball in his hands.
In the Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Murphy observed, “De Gea was taking his time with their first goal kick.
This is a little odd because he took his time, asked everyone to move up field, and then hit long. We were going to have a nice game from there since they were just taking their time and pointing a lot.
By the end of June, De Gea’s current £375,000 per week deal will come to an end. The club and the Spaniard are now negotiating to extend the player’s current 12-year contract at Old Trafford, but the player rejected their original offer. Yet, he recently emphasized that he is content to remain.

He told Sky Sports, “Of course it’s amazing to be here, it’s a huge club, I love the club, and I’m extremely pleased here of course. The same things have always been said about this club over the years, but we only pay attention to the games because of the players.
