Romeo Lavia reportedly turned down a move to Liverpool because he feared he was being used by the club.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Belgian felt unimportant after Liverpool launched a club-record bid to sign Moises Caicedo after failing to reach Southampton’s asking price for Lavia.
Liverpool have been thoroughly disgraced in the transfer market this week, with Chelsea eventually signing Caicedo and now Lavia, leaving the Reds utterly empty-handed.
Although Caicedo would have been an incredible addition, there’s no disputing that Liverpool handled the acquisition of Lavia horribly, leaving the adolescent feeling unwanted.
Indeed, the 19-year-old may have been a fantastic long-term addition as well as a potential replacement for Fabinho right now, but Liverpool’s treatment of Lavia was disgraceful.
This week, Lavia had every right to deny Liverpool
There’s no knowing how well Lavia will perform at Chelsea, with many expecting him to be a bench player considering that the Blues have already signed Caicedo this transfer window.
However, if one thing is obvious, it is that Lavia had every right to refuse a move to Liverpool considering how the Reds went about recruiting the midfielder when everything seemed to point to the Southampton star moving to Anfield.
Liverpool ignored and sidelined the Belgian international after initially looking like they were about to sign Lavia, and the midfielder has slid through their clutches and to a rival side where his career may potentially stagnate.
