Jeff Petry, a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings, has chosen to play with the number 46.
The club that made the purchase on Tuesday made the announcement on account X. Given that his father wore this number on the Detroit Tigers uniform, his decision is highly symbolic. From 1979–87 and 1990–91, Dan Petry was popular among Michigan baseball fans.
The now 64-year-old man made a significant contribution to the Tigers’ victory in the World Series in 1984. He was given a pass to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game the following year.
Dan Petry has a 125-104 record and a 3.95 earned run average over the course of his career. In addition, he defeated 1,063 opponents.
He temporarily played for the Boston Red Sox, the California Angels, and the Atlanta Braves in addition to the Detroit club.
Relating to his son once again, Jeff Petry was traded twice in a span of eight days. It was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens from the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of a massive deal that also involved the San Jose Sharks. The Habs later traded him to the Red Wings for defenseman Gustav Lindstrom, a promising prospect, and a fourth-round draft pick in 2025.
From 2015 to 2022, the 35-year-old fullback sported the Sainte-Flanelle uniform. Early in his career, he also played for the Edmonton Oilers.
