Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur in their second game of the 2023/24 Premier League season this weekend.
Undoubtedly, coach Erik ten Hag will be expecting an improved performance from his Old Trafford team following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the opening match. However, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that if Manchester United replicate their display against Wolves, they will not emerge victorious against Spurs. Merson stated, “If Man United played like they did in the last game, they wouldn’t win. But they often manage to win even when they are not at their best.”
Merson emphasizes that Manchester United must exhibit a much more solid performance against Tottenham than they did against Wolves. He also expresses his anticipation for an intriguing season from Spurs, acknowledging their strong lineup of players. However, Merson highlights the significant challenge of replacing Harry Kane’s goal-scoring contributions, highlighting the need to fill the void of 30 goals in a season. Despite these challenges, Merson believes that Tottenham is likely to perform well against Manchester United, as the Man Utd appear to be some distance away from finding their rhythm and settling into their stride.
In his prediction, Merson foresees a 2-2 draw between the two teams.
