The key to Patrick Mahomes’ triumph over the Eagles is none other than Mahomes’ barber, DeJuan Bonds. According to the New York Post, when Mahomes finished his debut season in professional football, his weekly haircuts were entrusted to DeJuan Bonds.
Bonds is the proud proprietor of the ‘Purple Label Barbershop’ in Overland Park, Kansas. Mahomes indicated his willingness to accept a new hairdo in the most recent part of the Quarterback series, piqued fans’ interest.
How Patrick Mahomes’ haircut influenced his 2023 Super Bowl victory
To answer everyone’s burning question, Mahomes declared last year before the game, “DeJuan will keep me fresh.” He always cuts me the perfect way. He’ll be in town this week, and he’ll make sure I’m clean before the game.”
The Chiefs’ quarterback, who wears the number 15, won the Lombardi Trophy in 2020. Patrick Mahomes triumphed over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, with his trusted barber Bonds applauding from the seats at Hard Rock Stadium.
However, the next year’s bid to defeat Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay club in 2021 fell short. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mahomes’ barber was unable to execute his customary haircut process.
“When we were in the last one, since we were in COVID, they had set up a barber setup for me at the Arrowhead facility,” Bonds recounted, “but I caught COVID, so they couldn’t get haircuts.” This distressing lack of hair seems to be related to their loss. “So Pat went to the Super Bowl busted – no haircut,” Bonds joked. Because he didn’t have a haircut, that’s why we lost.”
On February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium, Mahomes will win his second Lombardi Trophy. Bonds, the team’s barber from 2009 to 2019, once again performed his amazing job.
Bonds gave Mahomes his distinctive haircut just before the Super Bowl LVII game, which no likely pleased the Chiefs fan in him. Notably, the bond between Mahomes and Bonds was crucial once again as Mahomes won the game.
Mahomes’ haircut has evolved throughout time
Mahomes’ distinctive haircut is known as a’mohawk fade,’ but other people call it the ‘Show Me cut,’ after Patrick’s moniker. Mahomes’ haircut hasn’t changed drastically over the years, but there have been some apparent modifications for those who pay attention.
His distinctive curly hair distinguishes him from other quarterbacks. He does, however, frequently sport his signature look: sometimes a precisely trimmed look around the ears, and other times a grain-sized hair length in the same area.
In a recent episode of the Netflix series ‘Quarterback,’ Mahomes had a comical incident while attempting to tighten his headband, inadvertently tangling it in his hair. Mahomes, frustrated, remarked, “This is my last year with the hair.”
Notably, the V-shaped look remains consistent from the back. Mahomes, on the other hand, is occasionally found with shorter or longer upper hair lengths. Regardless, when he wears a hairband during practice camps, people adore him.
Will Mahomes follow his custom and seek out his favorite barber, DeJuan Bonds, in his pursuit of an unbroken winning streak? The only way to know is to wait and see.
