Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has been on Chelsea’s radar for a substitute goalkeeper, to replace Kepa.
This summer, Chelsea parted ways with both goalkeepers last season. They sold Edouard Mendy to Al-Ahli, and let Kepa go to Real Madrid on loan. In fact, Kepa’s case came as a surprise because Thibaut Courtois was seriously injured, forcing Real to quickly find a replacement.
Chelsea have now identified rookie Robert Sanchez from Brighton as the number 1 goalkeeper this season. Therefore, they still need a quality backup plan. According to US media, New England Revolution goalkeeper Petrovic is on the radar of Chelsea.
Even the Blues are willing to spend 15 million pounds to buy this Serbian goalkeeper outright. Petrovic is considered the best goalkeeper in the MLS at the moment. He was contacted by many big European teams, including MU before the Red Devils recruited Andre Onana.
If this deal is successful, Petrovic will become the most expensive goalkeeper in MLS history, surpassing the old record held by Gaga Slonina of Chicago Fire when also moving to… Chelsea.
At the moment, coach Pochettino is very satisfied with his downline. Goalkeeper Sanchez integrates well, showing good footwork skills. New defenders also progressed quickly, along with Thiago Silva creating a pretty solid “blue wall”.
