As soon as he debuted, Granit Xhaka immediately assumed the role he loved so much: that of leader and cheerleader. The reward was the first 3-2 win over Leipzig.

He came to eliminate Leverkusen team frugality and unleash potential to the end. The Werkself has high expectations for Granite Xhaka (30), a man with burning ambition and unshakable confidence.
Bayer proved that hopes were well-founded at the start of the season against Leipzig. The team beat Bayern 3-0 in the Super Cup a week ago. Werkself beat RB 3-2 in a special match. And Xhaka immediately took on the role he loved so much: that of motivator and leader. He makes a mark of presence, isn’t afraid to argue with opponents and referees, and he’s also sporting influence.

Xhaka initiates leadership role
He played a key role in the 1-0 scoreline with a slot for Victor Boniface (22) – the Nigerian crossed to scorer Jeremie Frimpong (22). Just because of his speed and attacking ability, this Frimpong is one of Leverkusen’s most interesting players. Another was Florian Wirtz (20), who made it 3-1 for Bayer – following Frimpong’s pattern. In the middle, Jonathan Tah (27) headed home to make it 2-0.
Coaching players like special talent Witz or Frimpong in between, encouragement and long-term focus – that’s part of Xhaka’s job. Coach Xabi Alonso said of him: “Perhaps his most important quality is that he is a great personality.”
A successful start
You can see a lot of things – yet Leverkusen conceded twice: to Olmo and Openda. And they have to give RB more chances. In the final minutes of the match, Leipzig pushed Werkself into the penalty area. But Bayer brought home the victory when he reached the finish line. And well deserved.
Especially thanks to Xizekusener – the mark of good technicians who failed when things get serious. There’s still a lot of work to be done. But Xhaka and Alonso got off to a good start.
