Arsenal’s ᴜnҽxрҽcтҽԀ championship campaign continues on Sunday when they travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool team that has battled for consistency this season.
Liverpool was chasing a historic quadruple this time last year but has fallen short this season, winning only 12 of their 28 league games and falling to ninth place.
The Reds were thrashed 4-1 by Manchester City over the weekend and drew 0-0 with managerless Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Nonetheless, Klopp feels Liverpool’s performance at Stamford Bridge was a “little step” on the right way and expects to build on it when they meet the Premier League leaders.
Klopp, who led Liverpool to the Premier League championship in 2020, believes Arsenal are ‘flying’ and playing super football,’ but that they can be defeated if they play to their full ability.
‘The next game is Arsenal,’ Klopp stated following the stalemate at Chelsea Bridge. ‘I’m not sure where Arsenal was last year, but they are now definitely flying, in amazing form, and playing terrific football, which is incredibly enjoyable to watch.
But we’re here because it’s a home game, and our home record isn’t as horrible as our away record. That means I’m looking forward to this game now because I saw a step tonight and that’s exactly what I wanted.
‘All right, let’s go on. Anfield is expecting us, and we want to deliver. We have 10 games left, and the next one is against Arsenal. I’m not interested in [the other nine games].
‘But, the next game is against Arsenal, so if we are tough to defeat against Arsenal, we may win this game. If not, Arsenal will just go over us and we shall see what happens.
‘With one exception, as I have said, the steps are not huge. If you win a football game, you suɗɗenly get three points for one game; wow, things may change.’ Yet for the time being, we have no shortage of objectives or destinations in mind; we just want to be as successful as possible.
‘But it means we want to win every weekend, or every midweek game, like today. I watched it tonight, and I’m good with it.’
When Graham Potter was fired over the weekend, former Brighton defender Bruno Saltor took over as Chelsea’s manager against Liverpool. Potter, 47, was in control of the Blues for fewer than seven months.
Jürgen Klopp should leave of Liverpool this summer
Dietmar Hamann, a Liverpool hero, feels Jürgen Klopp should leave the club in the summer since the present scenario is unlikely to change under his leadership.
The Reds have suffered this season, having already been eliminated from all cup competitions and f𝔦ɡҺт𝔦𝚗ɡ for a European place as they sit seventh in the Premier League rankings.
A goalless draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night did little to quell the skeptics, of whom Hamann has been one of the most vocal in recent months, prolonging a spat with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The former Germany midfielder has once again slammed the door in the face of his compatriot, stating he should leave Anfield at the conclusion of the season.
However Hamann admits that some of the difficulties stem from owners who are reluctant or unable to compete with transfer amounts offered by other teams.
‘I’m s/c/a/r/e/d that if Klopp stays, it won’t be any better next year since Liverpool’s owners never spend money like other teams,’ says one fan. Hamann told Sky Deutschland’s Sky 90.
‘He wouldn’t have earned it, and neither would this amazing union between Liverpool and Klopp.’
That is why, in the summer, a cut would be preferable for all parties. Listening to Klopp, he wants to do it, he believes he can do it – but I have serious reservations.’
In January, Hamann questioned Klopp, questioning his drive and motivation to continue a project at Liverpool, despite the fаcт that the present squad plainly needs a big overhaul.
‘[He] needs to develop a new team,’ he told talkSPORT. The issue will be if he has the drive, appetite, and stamina to do so, given that they lack the financial resources that the other teams possess.
‘Players who cost £35 million a few years ago now cost £70-80 million, and Liverpool are not willing to pay that.’
The issue is if he has the will, ambition, and stamina to cope with the financial disparities between the best clubs in order to compete in the next years.
‘They might finish in the top four, but where they are now definitely reflects how excellent they are.
‘At the present, they are unlikely to be a top-four squad.
‘They’re now a top six or top seven side, and I don’t believe that’s his objective for the next five years if he continues at Liverpool.’
