EXCL: Liverpool positioned to finally sign new defender after £26m+ bid turned down

Liverpool conceded a careless goal at Anfield against the Cherries and will need to bolster their backline if they are to genuinely fight for the title this season.

Perr Schuurs, a Dutch center back, has long been on Klopp’s want list, and the recent claims are intriguing.

Last month, the Merseysiders made two bids to entice the defender away from Torino, the latter of which was over 30 million euros (£26 million+), but it was rejected (Tutto Sport).

According to an exclusive story published by Football Insider yesterday, Liverpool are in pole position to sign the 23-year-old.

The Reds sought Mickey van de Ven, but he chose to join Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio signed a new contract.

The spotlight is now back on Perr Schuurs, who is highly appreciated by Liverpool FC and the Netherlands captain, Virgil van Dijk.

According to the news source, signing the former Ajax player before the transfer deadline in more than ten days could cost £30 million.

However, according to Italian media (CM), a fee of £34.2 million (40 million euros) will be required to lure him away from the Turin club.

Schuurs played the entire 90 minutes as Torino overcame Feralpisalo 2-1 in the Coppa Italia first round last week.

He is anticipated to start when Il Toro takes on Cagliari in their first Serie A match tomorrow.
