Liverpool set sights, Klopp confident to seal new left-sided centre-back, scout already watching him

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are still looking to sign a left-sided centre-back before the transfer market closes.

Jurgen Klopp wants to provide support and competition for Virgil van Dijk while also refreshing the central defense position for the first time since Ibrahima Konate’s arrival.

Last week (19 August), Football Insider revealed that Torino’s Per Schuurs, 23, is on the radar of Liverpool’s recruiting squad, and he was observed by scouts during his team’s Serie A draw against Cagliari on Monday night.

Liverpool has a budget set up for a new center-back but will not commit the same amount of money to a central midfielder.

After completing the signing of defensive midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart on Friday (18 August), Football Insider stated that the Reds are ready to prioritize a deal for a left-sided centre-back.

Schuurs is seen as a more affordable choice for the Merseysiders, with a price tag of roughly £30 million.

According to sources, Reds captain and fellow countryman Virgil van Dijk is “well aware” of the 23-year-old’s abilities and is a “big fan” of the defender.

Schuurs’ current contract with Torino runs until 2026. He joined the club from Ajax last summer, where he won three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups in four years.

Last season, the Dutchman made 36 appearances for the Serie A club, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
