New England Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden, who suffered a head injury Saturday that led to the discontinuation of the team’s preseason football game at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, is apparently doing much better as of Monday.
Bolden suffered the injury Saturday after colliding with teammate Calvin Munson; the teams agreed to stop the game short at that point, with 10:29 left in the fourth quarter. Bolden was carted off the field and diagnosed with a concussion.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com said Bolden woke up Sunday with a headache but was in good spirits.
According to the Patriots, Bolden was held for overnight observation at Aurora Bay Medical Center in Green Bay but then was scheduled to travel home with the team.
“We thank the medical staff at Aurora Bay Medical Center for their overnight evaluations, as well as the Patriots and Packers medical staffs for their immediate on-field response and care in transporting Isaiah to a nearby hospital,” a Patriots team release noted.
The Patriots though did cite the event as reason to cancel joint practices with the Titans that had been scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The team will now fly to Nashville on Thursday for its Friday night preseason game against the Titans.
Bolden himself thanked fans for the support.
On Monday morning, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Bolden was “a lot better” than he was Saturday.
“He flew back with us. … I talked to Isaiah, and he’s in good spirits,” Belichick said, relayed by NESN.com. “Recovering, obviously. So we’ll just take it day to day. But he certainly seems a lot better today than it looked like Saturday night, so that’s a good thing. It’s good for him to fly back with the team and everyone see him. He’s got a lot of support here.”
