Hincapie keen on joining Liverpool than Tottenham as Reds search for an up-and-coming left-sided centre-back

Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen is more likely to join Liverpool than Tottenham Hotspur.

Hincapie has been linked with a move to Anfield, where the Reds are looking for a young left-sided centre-back.

And, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, it’s a move that the player would love. However, on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Jacobs stated that, while Liverpool is the most likely destination for Hincapie, they aren’t completely sold on him yet.

“The last name that I would mention on the centre-back, even though I think it’s more potentially Liverpool and still very possibly West Ham, is [Piero] Hincapie as well,” the writer adds.

“He’s a left-sided centre-back with a lot of potential and a lot of experience, and Tottenham has definitely run the numbers and data on him.” I don’t believe he’s been added to the shortlist at this time, but he could be a name to keep an eye on if he moves to the Premier League in the coming weeks.

“I don’t think it’s accurate to say Spurs are in the race at this point, but remember what I said earlier about what happens if you miss out on one target.” Who do you pivot to in the last hours of the window, and where might you receive some surprises?

“However, I’m told that if it is to be a Premier League club, the player would prefer Liverpool, but they aren’t fully sold, and West Ham, who missed out on Harry Maguire, is another club to keep an eye on.”

Hincapie has been linked to Liverpool

In the most basic sense, Hincapie is exactly what Liverpool is seeking for in a new defensive acquisition.

Young with a lot of promise, already playing in one of Europe’s best leagues, and, most importantly, left-footed.

He also apparently would not charge the earth to sign. Teradeportes in Ecuador stated last week that Leverkusen will ask roughly £38 million to sell the Ecuadorian. That is well within Liverpool’s capabilities.

Nonetheless, we know that the Reds will not pursue a player until they are completely confident of his abilities. Even at such a low price.

To that aim, they are supposed to be keeping an eye on Hincapie, presumably in order to determine his genuine level.

If they believe the 21-year-old is worth pursuing, we might see some movement over the next week. Hincapie, by all accounts, would be delighted to join.

However, it is worth noting that the centre-back shares the same agency as Moises Caicedo. Not a man or an organization with whom Liverpool has recently had success. They might choose to remain away. But one to keep an eye on.
