Elif Elmas, a reported Liverpool target, is not interested in signing a new deal to continue at Napoli.
Elmas enjoyed a strong season in Naples, helping his team win its first championship in 33 years. This has fueled rumours that he is on the move, with journalist Fabrizio Romano linking him to Liverpool in June.
There has been little movement in terms of the Reds or any other side since then. However, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, this is beginning to change.
They believe that RB Leipzig, a notorious talent scout, has made an offer to Napoli for Elmas. With a bid worth roughly £26 million, the Serie A champions’sent it back.’
However, if another bid arrives, it appears that Napoli will have to reconsider. Despite the failed attempt, Elmas is apparently “unwilling” to renew a contract with two years remaining. His inability to commit to Napoli has left him with lingering’doubts about the future.’
Elmas Napoli’s future is in jeopardy
Elmas, a creative and sluggish midfielder, may not be what Liverpool needs right now. However, the links to him from this summer proved to be genuine.
It’s possible that they’ve assigned the North Macedonian to a little different role than he’s used to.
It’s also possible that the Reds are watching his precarious situation in Naples for future reference.
Elmas’ contract will be up in a year if he stays where he is for the time being. He’ll still be 24 by then and may be a great value for someone. Liverpool would be prudent to keep an eye on things.
Alternatively, if he ends up joining Leipzig this summer, don’t rule out a move to the Reds.
They have a solid relationship with Red Bull, having recently purchased Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai from them.
If Elmas ends up there and goes well, it could be the catalyst Liverpool needs to genuinely enter the race. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on this one.
