‘Number of weeks’: Determine the number of matches that Luke Shaw will miss due to muscle injury

Manchester United’s left winger The club announced Thursday that Luke Shaw will miss “a number of weeks” due to a muscular problem, adding to their early season injury troubles.

Erik ten Hag’s team is coming off a disheartening 2-0 loss against Tottenham and is preparing for Nottingham Forest’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

“Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury that will keep him out of the next few games,” the club said in a statement.

“The muscle problem is still being evaluated, but the England left-back is expected to be out for a few weeks.”

United were already without fellow England international Mason Mount for the next two games due to an injury sustained in last weekend’s loss to Tottenham.

Shaw and Mount are also expected to miss Man United’s trip to face last season’s Premier League runners-up Arsenal on September 3 before the international break.

They both appear unlikely to play in England’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Ukraine and Scotland.

Shaw’s injury would be especially difficult for Ten Hag because reserve left-back Tyrell Malacia is still sidelined due to an injury suffered last season. Meanwhile, fellow left-back Brandon Williams signed a season-long loan with Ipswich Town in the EFL Championship on Thursday.

Diogo Dalot, a right-back who has previously played on the left side of defense, could be a possibility to provide cover for Shaw.
