Bad news: Cowboys’ ‘Prospect X’ OUT for Season with Injury

The Dallas Cowboys have recently faced with a rash of significant knee injuries, and there is now concern that another medical issue has arisen following Wednesday’s practice here inside The Star.

David Durden, a free agency wide receiver known as “Prospect X” in some circles since he was the topic of an annual media initiative focusing on unknown NFL Draft possibilities, was taken off the field after suffering an apparent leg injury.

Teammates gathered around Durden to console him before he was brought inside to the locker room and given medical assistance. … According to the Dallas News, an MRI revealed that the injury is season-ending.

According to a video of the action, Durden merely tripped awkwardly while practicing in a one-on-one drill with top cornerback Trevon Diggs.

DeMarvion Overshown and John Stephens Jr., both rookies, were recently lost to season-ending knee injuries for the Cowboys.

It’s been an uphill struggle for the 6-1 Durden to make an impression as the Cowboys assemble what appears to be a loaded 53-man roster, with the 24-year-old also suffering a concussion earlier this month.

CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup lead the Cowboys’ receiver room. Jalen Tolbert has taken the fourth slot, and Durden was competing for a roster berth with KaVontae Turpin, Jalen Brooks, and Simi Fehoko.

Durden spent two years at Mercer before transferring to West Florida for three seasons. As a senior, he scored 13 touchdowns and made an impact as a punt returner.
