Liverpool handed huge selection boost for Newcastle United as key trio available
The red card given to Alexis Mac Allister during Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth on Saturday has been rescinded.
Midway through the second half of the triumph over the Cherries, the Argentine midfielder was sent off for a risky charge on Ryan Christie by referee Thomas Bramall.
Mac Allister, who had arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion for £35 million, was sent off in his Stockley Park debut after a check from video assistant referee Paul Tierney. There hadn’t been a red card given to Liverpool in a year.
The club appealed the decision on Monday, and the Football Association reversed it after reviewing the evidence through an independent regulatory commission on Tuesday, clearing Mac Allister to play in Sunday’s match against Newcastle United at St. James’s Park. The FA released a statement saying, “Following a claim of wrongful dismissal, an independent Regulatory Commission has lifted Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension.” On Saturday, August 19th, the Liverpool midfielder was red-carded for a violent foul in their Premier League match against Bournemouth.
