Declan Rice, a ball player for both Arsenal and England, just fronted his first editorial cover story for the first issue of the new sports and lifestyle publication CircleZeroEight, titled “FRESH.”
Elgar Johnson, a former British GQ Style Deputy Editor and Fashion Director, launched CircleZeroEight, a multimedia publication, and FRESH is Issue 01 of that publication.
FRESH fulfills Johnson’s objective to highlight the special ability of sport to excite and entertain while also overcoming prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination by debuting exclusively with the Design Museum.
With Issue 01 offering an unrivaled glimpse into the world of sport through a new, innovative, and uncensored vision, Deccers featured in his debut editorial cover story wearing Prada, photographed by Maxwell Tomlinson, and styled by Johnson.
The second cover features emerging British model and athlete Annie Jill Tagoe, who was dressed by Katie Grand and captured by Slve Sundsb. The third and final cover features nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, a great American. John Balsom and Dan May styled the cover, which was photographed in Los Angeles.
With contributions from writer Lauren Cochrane, photographer Ewen Spencer, and designer and choreographer Saul Nash, FRESH sheds light on the fast developing nexus between sport and modern culture.
Because we are attempting to speak about sport in a manner that hasn’t been done before, we named the first issue FRESH. Sport has a voice and power, and this voice and power need to be heard more than before. It goes beyond politics. The world’s largest influencers now are sportspeople.
