Man Utd planning surprise move for Spanish international left-back

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are plotting a surprise move for Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso as a result of Luke Shaw’s muscular ailment.

Following his latest injury, Shaw will be out until November for the Red Devils. Tyrell Malacia, his deputy, is also out. He has been suffering from a knee problem for several months.

As a result, United are lacking at the left-back position. Diogo Dalot filled in as a temporary left-back over the weekend, and the team is now looking to buy a specialist.

According to The Telegraph, Alonso is deemed an emergency signing before the deadline. Other options include Marc Cucurella and Sergio Reguilon.

Alonso would be a dangerous acquisition for United. From his stint at Chelsea, the £103,000-a-week player has extensive Premier League experience. In 212 games for the Blues, he contributed 52 goals, 47 of which came in the league.

Alonso was a big success for the London club in the final third, but the 32-year-old had faults at the back. When making overlapping runs, he was frequently caught out of position.

He would be a hazardous signing for the Red Devils, in our opinion. Alonso would be a better fit for Reguilon or Cucurella. They are more aware in defensive circumstances.

Cucurella’s loan negotiations with Chelsea have already begun, but he will not be cheap. Apart from a hefty loan charge, United would have to pay his weekly salary of £175,000.

Cucurella had a disappointing initial season with the Blues, but he was a standout performer at Brighton. His defensive and offensive efforts were outstanding.
