Center-back Virgil van Dijk may be punished more severely than expected, according to the Daily Mail.
In the third round of the Premier League, after Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead, Van Dijk received a direct red card for a foul on Alexander Isak. Van Dijk cut down his opponent and was sent off by referee John Brookes.
It can be seen that Van Dijk made a mistake even though the Newcastle player was blocked in a situation without a clear scoring opportunity.
Coach Jurgen Klopp himself also admitted that Virgil van Dijk’s red card was crazy. However, the Dutch midfielder can be punished more severely.
According to the Daily Mail, due to Van Dijk’s refusal to leave the field and inappropriate behavior towards the referee, he may be subject to a heavier penalty.
He is said to point to the fourth referee, with the words “what a joke”. This is attributed to improper conduct. The FA will investigate and issue a penalty for this midfielder.
Despite playing short of people and being led, Liverpool still came upstream successfully. Darwin Nunez scored twice when coming on to help The Kop win 2-1.
