EXCL: £35m defender really wants to join Liverpool, personal terms agreed

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie is’very open’ to joining Liverpool.

Jacobs spoke on the social media platform X and provided an update on Hincapie’s future ahead of the deadline on Friday.

Liverpool may be on the hunt for a left-sided defender this week as they attempt to increase the quality of their center-back options.

Darwin Nunez scored a late brace from the bench to give the Reds a thrilling win at St James’ Park on Sunday.

However, the victory underscored the importance of Liverpool bringing in another defender. During the early parts of the game, Ibrahima Konate was injured and Virgil van Dijk was sent off.

And Jacobs reports that Piero Hincapie is desperate to join Liverpool, although the Reds have yet to make a bid for the defender.

Hincapie is interested in a move to Liverpool

Jacobs gave an update on Liverpool’s search for a new center-back on X.

“Centre-back-wise, I get a lot of questions about Hincapie,” the CBS journalist added. “I’m still hearing from people close to the player that no offer has been made.”

“Two Premier League clubs have been linked and have made enquiries, and the player, by the way, would be very open to a Liverpool move, but I’m not aware of any Liverpool offer at this time.”

“The other club is West Ham, who have obviously had a failed pursuit, and I believe we can call him that now, of Harry Maguire, so they are also looking for a centre-back.”

“But I think Liverpool will be very busy between now and the end of the window.”

Hincapie has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen in recent years and appears to be ready for the step up to Premier League play.

Despite being only 21, the defender has already earned 27 Ecuadorian caps and competed in the Champions League with Leverkusen.

He’s supposedly worth approximately £35 million, and with Klopp’s team in desperate need of a left-footed centre-back, it’s difficult to see why Liverpool haven’t made a move.

The guy is certainly interested in moving to Anfield, and the Reds could use some quality at center-back.
