Raiders HC Josh McDaniels reveals how Mike Vrabel would get on legendary QB’s nerves

In the eyes of many fans and opponents, Tom Brady is the best quarterback in NFL history. Mike Vrabel, the Titans’ current head coach, played alongside Brady for the Patriots for eight seasons.

Josh McDaniels, the Raiders’ current head coach, was Brady’s offensive coordinator for 11 seasons.

McDaniels recently joined on the ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ podcast and discussed how Vrabel would get under Brady’s skin during Patriots practices:

“He had such a good career as a carries, that he had that kind of confidence as a player, you know, I mean, there’s nobody to be p*ssed off more than Brady, you know, because he would play scout team all the time and so on, like he would do with our defensive reps.”

“And then he [Vrabel] would walk in the huddle and say, Get out of here,” and he’d throw the person out of the huddle, and then he’d play safety.” And, of course, he would never do what the card indicated, which irritated Brady to no end. “Do you understand what I mean?”

McDaniels went on to say:

“I’m thinking, Well, he’s not going to do that, Mike.” And then he’d go cry, like, how do you like it? Oh, sure, those two had legendary battles back and forth and everything. But, you know what I mean? Mike was always the agitator. That was all part of his act.”

Tom Brady and Vrabel won three Super Bowls and appeared in six postseason games during their stint in New England. The former three-time MVP and All-Pro linebacker signed with the Patriots prior to the 2001 season.
