Liverpool have made a contract offer to Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure as they aim to finalize a deal for the Malian.
Doucoure has emerged as one of the players most likely to join Liverpool in the coming days. But, with less than 48 hours left in the window, things will have to move swiftly.
Sport Zone claims that they are now headed in that way. According to the French publication, Liverpool has approached the 23-year-old with a proposal.
The Reds are reportedly looking for another specialist defensive midfielder, with Doucoure being one of the candidates being considered.
However, the Palace man isn’t the only one on Liverpool’s radar. According to Sport Zone, Jurgen Klopp and his team want to ‘vary’ his options, with Doucoure ‘not alone’ in being approached.
Liverpool is looking for late-night business
So the summer comes down to this. Liverpool have been connected with midfielder after midfielder since the turn of the year.
However, after bringing in three sparkling new ones, the feeling is that they still need to do another.
It cannot be deemed a terrible window if their transaction is completed with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo.
But consider who has left: Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, and Fabio Carvalho.
Liverpool’s team is plainly undermanned. They must make some immediate decisions or risk another season of misery.
It will be a success if they can bring in a player like Doucoure. Yes, a center-half is still desperately needed, and there aren’t many excuses for not getting one. However, the midfield was always the priority.
Doucoure has a guy that can play as a specialist No.6, as well as a little farther forward. His debut season at Palace was described as’superb’ [Evening Standard], and he has the potential to take Liverpool to the next level. However, the Reds will have to pay for it. Liverpool, keep those phone lines open!
