Piero Hincapie, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, would love to join Liverpool on deadline day.
After months of speculation, rumours, and some real deals, the summer transfer market is due to close at 11 p.m. today. Before then, Liverpool must finalize a Ryan Gravenberch-type deal and may be in the market for a center-back.
If they are looking for a defender, journalist Ben Jacobs believes it will not be Hincapie. Jacobs claimed on Twitter last night that, while the 21-year-old wants the move, it isn’t going to happen.
“Liverpool will not be moving for Piero Hincapie,” the journalist claims. “Despite links, there has never been concrete interest.” Although it is true that Hincapie would welcome an approach, LFC has never really considered one.
“West Ham United was probably the most genuine Premier League suitor this summer, but they never made an offer.”
Hincapie is not on the agenda for Liverpool
Liverpool will undoubtedly have looked into Hincapie. Although Leverkusen do not appear to want to lose him, the defender is said to be willing to depart if a proposal of approximately £35 million came in.
With that information widely available, the Reds must have realized they could snag the Ecuadorian for a modest sum.
He appears to be a good fit for Liverpool, being left-footed, young, and full of potential.
They have, however, elected to keep their powder dry for whatever reason.
For the time being, it appears unlikely that Liverpool will add a center-back to their roster today. Many will be disappointed, and many would have preferred to see Hincapie brought in today.
However, we can now cross the Ecuador international off the list right away. If there is a defender in the works, it does not appear to be this one.
