‘Better version of Pogba’ – Erik ten Hag won’t be happy with Liverpool transfer move

Liverpool will try to complete the acquisition of Ryan Gravenberch before the transfer deadline.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been a target for Liverpool for almost a year, but the Reds have had to wait while the German giants line up replacements.

Gravenberch will round off a midfield revamp that has included Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo in a hectic summer at Anfield.

Gravenberch has struggled at Bayern after joining on a free transfer from Ajax a year ago, but his stock remains high. But what makes the 21-year-old such an appealing choice for Liverpool or any other suitors? Here is what has already been said about him:

Former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag

Last year, his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who is now at Liverpool’s archrivals Manchester United, told German outlet Sport 1: “Ryan is a young player, but he’s gained experience.” He has already played over 100 games in the Eredivisie, as well as in the Champions League and for the national squad.

“Despite his young age, he has already gained a lot of experience and, most importantly, titles.” Because he is a box-to-box player, he is crucial to our team.

“He accelerates out of positional play, dribbles well, has excellent passing ability, and participates in build-up play.” He’s good in the transition game and can win the balls because of his athleticism and physique. He’s come a long way, but he still has a lot to learn.”

Former Ajax youth coach Brian Tevreden

During an interview with Goal, the former Ajax coach compared Gravenberch to Dutch legend Frank Rijkaard and former Manchester United player Paul Pogba. “Physically, I see Frank in him from back in the day,” Tevreden added, “because he’s tall and very strong.”

“But, technically, I think he’s a better version of Pogba in his prime with Juventus.” In terms of technique and presence on the field.”

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel

Gravenberch only appeared in three Bundesliga games during his debut season with Bayern. However, following the dismissal of former manager Julian Nagelsmann, there may be other opportunities under Thomas Tuchel’s leadership.

“I see his qualities in training,” Tuchel added. It’s difficult to experiment now [during a title race].

“He’s doing well in training. He’s a No. 8 with excellent turning and dribbling skills. It’s time to be patient now. It’s about battling for a spot, and he may start or come on during the game [against Hoffenheim].
