In the Europa League, Liverpool player Alexis Mac Allister will face his brother Kevin Mac Allister, since the Reds are in the same group as Union Saint-Gilloise, where the sibling of Argentina World Cup winner plays.
Alexis Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool in the summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, will be caught between a rock and a hard place in the Europa League group stage.
In Group E, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will face LASK of Austria, Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium, and French Cup holders Toulouse. Kevin Mac Allister, the Liverpool midfielder’s biological relative, plays for the Belgian side.
After finishing sixth in the Premier League last season, Liverpool is playing in the Europa League for the first time since 2015/16, when they lost in the final to Sevilla.
Both brothers began their football careers at Argentinos Juniors’ academy, as did Facundo, the oldest brother who now plays for Rosario Central.
Although no official dates for the Europa League group stage fixtures have been announced, the Reds are considered favorites to win the European trophy after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
