Jurgen Klopp praises new LFC ‘partnership’ and makes Darwin Nunez admission

Jurgen Klopp stated that he “could not imagine a better Sunday” after Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 3-0 at Anfield.

And the Reds manager praised Darwin Nunez’s performance, who assisted on two of the three goals in his first start of the season.

After Dominik Szoboszlai’s wonderfully placed strike put the Reds ahead after 22 minutes, Matty Cash bundled the ball into his own net after Nunez had hit the post. After assisting Mohamed Salah with a flick-on from an Andy Robertson corner, Klopp was pleased with how his two forwards linked up against Unai Emery’s team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was hauled off in the second quarter with a hamstring injury, but other from that potential setback, Klopp was pleased with the day’s action, as his club moved up to third in the Premier League with 10 points from 12 now taken.

“It was pretty much like this,” Klopp remarked, “the two sprinters of the team want to know where the other is.” “I’m pretty sure Mo told Darwin before the game that when the ball is high, ‘please deflect it because I’m on my bike.'”

“The collaboration is excellent. It’s a bit of an issue in my profession because we have to establish lineups before we know what will work out, but it worked out really nicely today. And I’m thrilled for Darwin as well.

“Perhaps we shouldn’t forget since [the second] was an own goal or something, but the whole [opportunity] it was like ‘oh my God! There’s still time to get the ball!’ Curtis returned from injury and the boys gave it their all, so I think 65 minutes or whatever it was was enough time for the three boys.

“The bench options, too, Harvey Elliott is so close [to starting], Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo were there, and I thought it was pretty nice we could bring Wataru Endo on as well.” We could see if he was there in better moments; he was aggressive, he passed the ball, and, aside from Trent’s hamstring, it was a beautiful afternoon; the weather, my God! It’s still early, 4.45 p.m. or whatever, so I can’t think of a nicer Sunday.”

“It was a top game, the best in a long time, I don’t know when the last line (defense) was that convincing,” Klopp remarked. We definitely had a few strong games, especially near the end of last season, but it was really good.

“You can’t do one step less, offensively or defensively, against this Aston Villa team because you’ll struggle right away.” However, the early goal may have helped.

“I don’t know how we would have looked without it, but we looked good.” It felt like the balance of control and direction in possession was nearly ideal. We may employ the formation correctly today. Everyone wanted the ball and either protected it or offered it, so it was a great game.

“It was as good as it could be because the opponent is extremely strong, but we didn’t let it happen today, and that is a massive compliment to my boys.”
