After watching Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez’s performance against Aston Villa this afternoon, pundit Leon Osman lavished praise on him. Darwin Nunez wowed commentator Leon Osman this afternoon as Liverpool defeated Aston Villa at Anfield. The Reds were far superior than Unai Emery’s men, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring a wonderful opening goal. Nunez hit the post, only for the ball to smash into the net off Matty Cash, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead.
Mohamed Salah added a third goal to seal Liverpool’s third consecutive Premier League victory. Nunez failed to score as he experienced a disappointing day in front of goal just a week after scoring twice against Newcastle United. The Uruguayan had five efforts, but none were on target, as he hit the woodwork twice. Nunez is simply a continual danger, but the ultimate result isn’t quite consistent enough.
Pundit and former Everton midfielder Leon Osman has recently told BBC Sport that Nunez’s performance was his best ever. “Darwin Nunez was as good as I’ve seen him,” Osman said, clearly impressed with the former Benfica player. Darwin Nunez requires a chance in the Liverpool team right now. Nunez appeared to have turned a corner when he scored two wonderfully clinical goals to win the game at Newcastle.
We didn’t see Nunez’s nasty streak against Villa, but the risk is there.
What we’d like to see now is Nunez given a chance to play as Liverpool’s central striker.
Liverpool have other options through the middle in Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, but Nunez needs that chance now.
The 24-year-old definitely has a lot of talent, which he will only discover if he is given regular playing time.
Jurgen Klopp should keep Nunez in the lineup after the international break and hope that he can reproduce his performance in Newcastle in the future.
