‘It’s a different team’ – Joe Gomez praises Liverpool team after Aston Villa win

It hasn’t always been attractive, and at times it has been downright ugly, but Liverpool has three victories and a tie in their first four games of the season. The Reds saved their best for last before the international break in September, thrashing Aston Villa 3-0 in a complete display from everyone involved.

Joe Gomez was a pivotal player on the day, stepping in to partner with Joel Matip when first choice center backs Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté were unavailable due to red card suspensions and injuries, respectively. Gomez wants to ensure that the group can maintain momentum after departing for international duty.

“It’s a different team, and I think it’s important, like always, that we don’t get ahead of ourselves,” the center back explained.

“Obviously, all of the boys have gone around the world, and we need to come back and regroup right away in order to keep the momentum going.” We’ll just keep going and see how things go.”

Gomez also mentioned how well the new midfield signings are settling in. He believes the group may improve their performances as they become more familiar with their new look.

There has been a lot of personnel change this year, but the boys that have come in have been outstanding and have demonstrated their abilities. It’s also refreshing to see the lads settle in quickly and do what they do to express themselves. As I already stated, this is only the beginning; we must continue forward.”

In his 200th appearance for Liverpool, Gomez was delighted to step in and lead his team to victory. Despite being mostly a reserve player the last few seasons, he has worked hard to be ready and perform when called upon.

“Obviously, things change, and you have to try to stay prepared, which is something I try to be proud of.” Every day, I strive to apply myself in order to be ready to contribute to the team. It’s a great personal touch, but the three points are more significant.”
