As father, so son.
Tom Brady announced that his and ex-wife Gisele Bündchen’s 13-year-old son Ben will begin his own football career this year. However, when it comes to whatever renowned player he wishes to follow, it turns out that his father does not make the cut.
“My son will play football this year, Benny,” the former Patriots player declared on the September 4 episode of his SiriusXM show “Let’s Go!” “Jim Gray, Larry Fitzgerald, and Tom Brady.” “So, in the backyard, I’ve been throwing the ball to him. He’s going to be a beast. He’s a wonderful young man with many qualities. He’s a fantastic musician and artist. And then this year, he told me, ‘Dad, I’m playing football.'”
When Brady asked his son which position he wanted to play, rather than following in his father’s footsteps as a quarterback, the adolescent said he wants to carry on the legacy of a family friend, Rob Gronkowski.
“‘Tight end,’ he said. “I want to be like Gronk!” Brady went on. “So I texted Gronk and said, ‘Yo, my boy wants to be like you!'” And he enjoyed it.”
And Ben isn’t the only one who participates in the family sport. Brady disclosed in October that his 16-year-old son Jack, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan, is a member of his high school’s football team.
“I don’t care how well he does,” he stated back then. “I just love watching him and seeing how much fun he has with his friends and the camaraderie he has at such a young age.”
Brady will not play on a football field for the first time in more than two decades in 2023, after officially retiring from the NFL – for good — in February. Since hanging up his jersey, the 46-year-old has also opened up about his life at home (he and Bündchen have a 10-year-old daughter, Vivian).
“So I’m out there throwing around in the backyard last night,” he explained on Sirius. “My daughter has me kicking the soccer ball around. And I’m having a great time with this new adventure. And there’s so much to life to be lived.”
In addition to journeys across the world and other sporting ventures, Brady’s retired life will include a new position as a sports commentator after accepting a 10-year contract to become Fox Sports’ main analyst. He claimed he was up for the challenge.
“I was very blessed to be able to play for as long as I did,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion said. “I loved it.” And now I get to witness other players do it, as well as view football from a different angle. I’ll be on Fox next year, so I’ll have the opportunity to truly sit back and watch while learning a new career. I used to observe things through the eyes of a quarterback.”
“Now I see it more from maybe broadcasting, but also as a fan, and then still from a quarterback,” he concluded. So there are a couple different views to study, which will be a lot of fun.”
