Rabat – As the new season kicks off, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has unveiled the list of the eight footballers nominated for the Player of the Month in the West Asia region. 

The nominees feature players who shined on the pitch in the last month, including  Moroccan player Abderrazak Hamdallah, football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, and Brazilian player Roberto Firmino, among others.

The monthly award allows fans to cast their votes for the standout footballer in West Asia, based on various criteria, including their impact on their teams, goal-scoring prowess, and performance in local and international competitions.

Hamdallah has been a prominent figure in Al Ittihad’s quest for glory in the Saudi league. 

By the end of August, he had already made a significant impact by scoring a goal against Al Raed in the opening round, finding the net against Al-Tai in the second round, and scoring two goals in the match against Al-Riyadh in the third round. 

The Moroccan striker currently stands as one of Al Ittihad’s top scorers, vying fiercely for the league’s Golden Boot.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo currently leads the Saudi league’s top scorers with a remarkable total of six goals. 

During the past month, he impressed fans by scoring a hat-trick against Al Fath and scoring twice against Al Shabab. 

In addition, Ronaldo played a key role in securing the Arab Clubs Championship for his team, Al Nassr, by scoring two crucial goals in the final match against Al Hilal.

Other players who have produced remarkable performances include Firmino, who has greatly contributed to Al Ahli’s achievements last month. He showcased his goal-scoring prowess in August by netting three goals, including a standout performance in the first round against Al Hazem. 

Also nominated for the award are UAE club Baniyas’ Youssoufou Niakate, Qatari club Al-Gharada’s Yacine Brahimi, and Jordanian club Al-Wehdat’s Anas Al Awadat, among others.
