Team USA was eliminated from title contention in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 semifinal by Germany, 113–111. With 24 points, Andreas Obst was the Germans’ top scorer.
After removing Team USA from title contention, Germany is still the only unbeaten team in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Germany defeated the United States 113-111 (33-31, 26-29, 35-24, 19-27) in the semifinal to advance to Sunday’s FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 final where they will play Serbia.
In the meantime, Team USA will compete against Canada for third place.

After a challenging third quarter, Team USA attempted to reduce the gap, but Germany was able to counter each of the American attempts. With 5:23 remaining, Thiemann’s turnaround jumper extended Germany’s lead to 12 points (106-94).
However, with 3:17 remaining, Team USA’s deficit was reduced to 3 points (103-106) with to baskets by Anthony Edwards and Austin Reaves, who also converted a 3-pointer.
Reaves and Dennis Schroder traded baskets, but Reaves then drew a foul, and with 1:35 remaining, Team USA was behind by one point (107-108).
However, Andreas Obst answered with a 3-pointer, Schroder followed with a jump shot, and with 40 seconds left, Germany led 113-107, which was enough to win.
With 24 points (2/3 2PT, 4/8 3PT, 8/9 FT), 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover, and 24 EFF, Andreas Obst was Germany’s top scorer.
Daniel Theis contributed 21 points (9/13 2PT, 1/3) along with 26 EFF, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.

After a 15-9 run, the Germans had a double-digit lead (94-84) at the end of the third quarter with to 3-pointers from Andreas Obst, Johannes Thiemann, and Isaac Bonga.
With 23 points (8/9 2PT, 2/8 3PT, 1/2 FT), 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 steal, and 26 EFF, Anthony Edwards led the way for Team USA in the contest.
