TOM BRADY’S Birmingham City will aim to entice Wayne Rooney back to England.
Rooney, the manager of DC United, is said to be very interested in the project being put together by the new St Andrews hierarchy, which includes seven-time NFL Superbowl champion Brady.
Brady, the club’s minority owner, sees Rooney as a global personality who may entice big players to the Championship team and lead them back to the Premier League in the near future.
The ex-American footballer is said to have kept in touch with the Manchester United and England legend.
And, according to SunSport, Rooney would love to return home if the perfect opportunity arose.
Rooney, his wife Coleen, and their four sons would be able to return to their luxurious £20 million Cheshire property if they joined Birmingham.
The Blues are now fourth in the Championship after three victories and two draws after an outstanding start under current manager John Eustace, 43.
Rangers are interested in him after Michael Beale lost two of the club’s opening four league games, including Sunday’s 1-0 home setback to fierce rivals Celtic.
His team was also eliminated from the Champions League after a 7-3 aggregate play-off loss to PSV.
After joining DC United 14 months ago, Rooney always intended to lead another English team.
He left for the MLS team after quitting as manager of Derby in June 2022, with the club in administration and demoted to League One with a 21-point deduction.
Now he is irritated by the lack of conversations with DC United’s owners about a new contract to replace his term, which expires in December, despite the club’s ninth-place finish in the league.
“I am slightly disappointed and frustrated that there has been no contact for two months,” he recently revealed.
“We inquired about a new contract. We can sit down and talk about it, but we haven’t received a response.
“We asked to sit down and speak because we need to plan for next season.”
“So we asked two months ago where everything was at, whether we were moving forward or not — if that’s the case from their perspective — and we haven’t heard back.”
“That’s frustrating because, in any case, I’d like to know what the plan is because we need to plan for next season.” We should do it sooner rather than later.”
