Four players who regret leaving Man Utd after manager’s firing and the injury crisis

Manchester United experienced another hectic summer transfer period, with frequent excursions through the Old Trafford arrivals and departures queue. Prior to Erik ten Hag’s second season as manager, the club sold 11 more players after nine players permanently left United last summer.

But after just one month of the new season, several stars might already regret leaving the Red Devils. Four are mentioned by Express Sport.

Telles, Alex

Even though Alex Telles wasn’t part of Ten Hag’s intentions and may have been supporting Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez nonetheless, he may be regretfully watching from Saudi Arabia.

With the loss of both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the early part of the season, United is experiencing an injury dilemma at left-back.

It led Ten Hag to request a short-term loan for Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham Hotspur, allowing Williams and Fernandez to go on loan.

But if Telles hadn’t already agreed to a transfer, he might have discovered an unexpected way to return to a starting position at Old Trafford.v

Fred

After Fred’s contract reached its final 12 months this summer, United decided to cash in on him by approving a £13 million transfer to Fenerbahce.

However, Ten Hag’s midfield has drawn significant attention as Mason Mount’s replacement of Fred seemed to imbalance the Dutchman’s options.

On the day before the deadline, United made a last-ditch effort to loan Sofyan Amrabat. But before to him, Scott McTominay was the only other player available who could cover Casemiro defensively.

If Fred hadn’t moved, he might have been waiting in line for regular minutes once more this semester before having his pick of clubs with a sign-on bonus the following summer.

Anthony Elanga

Anthony Elanga’s £15 million transfer to Nottingham Forest made him one of United’s greatest summer sales.

The 21-year-old academy graduate obviously desired more playing time, and if he had been more patient, he might have found it at Old Trafford.

On the right of Ten Hag’s assault, there may be a window of opportunity due to ongoing problems with Antony and Jadon Sancho.

And Elanga would have been confident in his ability to beat out Facundo Pellistri and Amad for the position.

James Garner

James Garner permanently departed United for Everton last year, though not this summer, saying he “didn’t want to stagnate.”

But at Everton, that is precisely what has happened, necessitating the addition of further midfielders after Ten Hag put Fred, Donny van de Beek, and McTominay in the sale window.

After his performance at Forest in 2021/22, Garner might regret not accepting a second loan season.

This summer, he would have returned to United with a midfield berth up for grabs. Kobbie Mainoo, though, appears to be the next promising midfielder to emerge from the academy.
