Jonny Evans of Manchester United is coming off back-to-back defeats with Northern Ireland.
Jonny Evans has had little to smile about in the days after completing his emotional return to Manchester United on a one-year contract.
Evans made his comeback as a late substitution against Arsenal in a 3-1 loss, with Evans accidently diverting Declan Rice’s shot for the Gunners’ decisive second goal.
Evans has recently played two games for Northern Ireland, both of which have ended in defeat.
Jonny Evans and Northern Ireland are defeated by Kazakhstan
Jonny Evans scored against Slovenia last Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough. Northern Ireland were defeated 4-2 by his team.
Evans conceded after the game that he had not played well, telling The Mail: “I didn’t think I played great myself.” I know I had a goal, but my own performance was probably not up to par.
“I’m old enough and wise enough to admit it.” We can’t keep giving away cheap goals like that at the start of the game.”
Evans and Northern Ireland were hoping to rebound against Kazakhstan on Sunday. Instead, they were defeated 1-0.
The 35-year-old played the entire 90 minutes as Northern Ireland was defeated by a 27th-minute goal from the hosts.
Euro 2024 dreams are in jeopardy
Northern Ireland’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2024 are already looking bleak. They have lost five of their six games and are currently ranked fifth in their group, just ahead of San Marino.
They are seven points behind fourth-placed Slovenia, who has played one fewer game.
Northern Ireland must rebuild, and this will happen without Evans.
