Bournemouth may be forced to sell defender Lloyd Kelly during the January transfer window, with Liverpool on high alert.
The 24-year-old has impressed for the Cherries after joining in 2019 for a price of around $16 million (£13 million/€15 million) from Championship side Bristol City.
The England U21 international has made over 100 appearances for Bournemouth, but his immediate future at the Vitality Stadium is now in doubt as his current contract expires next summer.
Bournemouth may now be compelled to sell the player during the winter transfer window in order to prevent losing him for free in 2024, according to Football Insider.
According to the source, Liverpool, along with other Premier League clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, are concerned about the player’s future. In the most recent twist, the hunt is supposed to be ‘led’ by Jürgen Klopp’s team.
The agreement gives Liverpool an excellent opportunity to address the club’s lack of depth at center-back, with the player expected to go for a bargain given his contract expiration.
Kelly is also left-footed, which gives the Liverpool defense some much-needed balance across the back four, as well as versatility due to his ability to cover at left-back.
The flaws in Klopp’s squad are obvious in defense. Throughout the summer, Liverpool was connected to Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, who has a similar profile in terms of placement and versatility.
That move never happened, probably due to the Germans’ low opinion of the player. Bild, a German tabloid, indicated a price tag of $76 million (£60 million/€70 million) for the Ecuadorian defender.
