This family moment is even more satisfying than a touchdown.
On September 10, Tom Brady returned to Gillette Stadium for a particular cause. The former New England Patriots quarterback, who played 20 seasons with the organization and won six Super Bowls during his tenure, was honored during the team’s home opener in a special halftime ceremony. And he was joined by three extra special guests: his three children, Jack, 16, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan, as well as Ben, 13, and Vivian, 10, whom he shares with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.
To make the occasion even more special, all three wore number 12 jerseys for the occasion—the number Tom wore throughout his NFL career—while waiting on stage for their father to run out onto the field. A snapshot from the wedding shows the joyful father hugging Vivian while his two sons stand by his side.
The 46-year-old had the opportunity to speak to the thousands of fans watching after Patriots owner Robert Kraft uttered a few words, during which he named Tom the best player to ever play the game.
“This is an incredible celebration for me, our family, my teammates, and all of us to come back and thank you guys for what you’ve done for us,” he said during his address. “I was so lucky to be drafted here two decades ago, 23 years ago, not even knowing where New England was on a map.” And, while we didn’t put it on the map, I believe a lot more people in the United States are aware of where the New England Patriots play.”
To thunderous applause, he added, “All our lives take us on different journeys, they take us to different places, they bring different people into our lives, but one thing I am sure of—and that will never change—is that I am a Patriot for life.”
And the former football star, who retired from the sport earlier this year after two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is loving seeing others follow in his footsteps, specifically his two boys.
“My son is going to play football this year, Benny,” Tom announced on the September 4 episode of Let’s Go! With Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray on SiriusXM. “So, in the backyard, I’ve been throwing the ball to him. He’s going to be a beast. He’s a wonderful young man with many qualities. He’s a fantastic musician and artist. And then this year, he told me, ‘Dad, I’m playing football.'”
Tom had previously mentioned that Jack was a member of his high school’s football team. “I don’t give an s–t how well he does,” he stated back then. “I just love watching him and seeing him have fun with his friends and enjoy the camaraderie at such a young age.”
Of course, the sons aren’t the only ones that keep their father on his toes.
“My daughter’s got me kicking the soccer ball,” he continued. “[I’m] having a great time with this new experience.” There’s so much to live for in life.”
