For the 2023–24 season, NBC Sports Chicago is bolstering its broadcast team for the Chicago Blackhawks. During the upcoming season, former Hawks enforcer John Scott will be present in the studio for pre- and post-game presentations.
On a recent episode of his “Dropping the Gloves” podcast, Scott made the announcement.
This year, I’ll spend more time in Chicago, Scott stated. I didn’t inquire as to whether I ought to say something, but I believe I ought to. The pen had just dried. This year, I’m working for NBC in Chicago. I’ll be performing before and after the game.
The imposing 6-foot-8 defenceman played for the Blackhawks for a portion of two seasons. Scott had just two assists in 69 games between 2010 and 2012 but accrued 120 penalties in that same period.
The eight-year NHL career of this Edmonton native saw him play for seven different organizations. Although Scott wasn’t a particularly good player, his stature and fighting skills made him a useful enforcer.
While the public frequently lamented his defensive shortcomings, they rejoiced when he dropped the gloves and produced battles worthy of a highlight reel:
Scott became into a popular hockey figure, as seen by his 2016 NHL All-Star Game MVP award, which was chosen by the audience. He capitalized on that excitement after his playing career ended by discussing all things hockey on his “Dropping the Gloves” podcast.
Scott will now use his skills to commentate on Blackhawks pre- and post-game shows from the NBC Sports Chicago studios. As the NHL season of 2023–24 approaches, the network has not yet made a formal announcement on the addition.
