Tom Brady, the renowned quarterback of the New England Patriots, was honored at Gilette Stadium on Sunday during the Patriots’ tight loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Brady delivered a statement to the New England fans at halftime, and he revealed that he was inspired by another NFL Hall of Famer.
Brady recently mentioned this on his Let’s Go! podcast, which featured NFL icon Peyton Manning as a guest.
“I Google’d ‘Peyton Manning jersey retirement speech,'” Brady explained. “He goes up onstage, says his great things like he always does, gets off the stage, [Jeff] Saturday snaps the ball to him, and he throws a post to Reggie [Wayne].” So I thought, ‘I’m going to do something enjoyable that the audience will enjoy.’ So let me rush out there, do my thing, and then I’ll go up there and have a wonderful time.”
Peyton Manning was honored to be a part of the Patriots’ icon’s celebration.
“I enjoy it. “You looked good,” Manning replied. “Jersey seemed to fit. You appeared to be prepared to go out there and take some photos.”
Brady, of course, won six Super Bowls while playing for the New England Patriots, including the team’s most recent in 2019. He would subsequently win another title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 before retiring at the end of the season.
The present Patriots will seek to rebound from their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on September 17 against the Miami Dolphins.
