Blackhawks prospect Connor Bedard had the opportunity to meet Penguins star Sidney Crosby in the opening game of NHL

Connor Bedard, the first overall pick, will probably make his NHL debut for the Chicago Blackhawks in the following campaign. One of the most anticipated prospects in recent memory is Bedard, who is seen as a generational possibility. Only two athletes—Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby—created a comparable buzz.

When the Chicago Blackhawks play the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 10, Bedard’s NHL career is most likely to get underway. There, he will compete against Crosby, who he views as his hero from his early years. However, the two were able to connect in Vegas on Tuesday. The meeting was also a standout moment for the 2023 first-round pick.

According to NHL.com, Bedard said during the NHL’s North American Player Media Tour, “Of course, my childhood idol in the hockey world and is such a good, genuine guy.” “It’s been great for me to spend some time with him and get to know him, the way he kind of handles himself and everything,” says the author.

Although Bedard won’t acknowledge it, it is nearly a given that he will break camp on the NHL roster. Prior to the season, he only wants to consider the challenges that lie ahead. He was aware of how amazing it would be to make his league debut against Crosby and a couple other future Hall of Famers, though.

According to Bedard, “I try not to think about it too much right now, [I’m focused] on training camp and everything leading up,” But if I were there and competing against him and that squad, it’s clear that they are a very legendary unit with him, (Evgeni) Malkin, (Kris) Letang, and of course (Erik) Karlsson. That would be quite unique.

Bedard plays his first five NHL games on the road. The Blackhawks’ home debut isn’t until October 21. The defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights will play in Chicago that evening.
