Liverpool eyeing move for 22-year-old Portugal star as Klopp keens to strengthen defense

Liverpool are keen on signing Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio, who has piqued the interest of the Reds’ management.

According to Fichajes (via the Liverpool Echo), Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are planning a summer deal for Sporting CP star Goncalo Inacio as they consider possibilities to improve their backline.

Inacio, who came through Sporting’s junior system, made his senior squad debut in March under Roberto Martinez’s supervision. The 22-year-old defender is well-regarded around Europe and has a bright career ahead of him.

He boasts all of the characteristics required to grow into a top-tier defense, making him a potentially important player for the Reds. Liverpool clearly needs defensive reinforcements, and they squandered a chance to buy a quality central defender during the summer transfer window.

As of now, the club’s first-choice center-backs are Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. Joel Matip, who is past his peak, has been plagued by ailments, and Joe Gomez has a spotty injury record.

Adding Inacio to their squad would be a good move for Jurgen Klopp’s team, as the versatile Portuguese could play several roles and provide crucial tactical flexibility.

This young man is versatile, with the ability to play as a left-sided center defender or even as a left-back. He can play in both four-man and three-man defensive sets.

Liverpool are in need of a left-back, and the Sporting star may provide an excellent alternative to Andrew Robertson in that position. The manager may play him differently depending on the opponent, enhancing the Reds’ defensive stability.

The teenager is reportedly said to be priced at €30 million, which might be a fantastic bargain for any squad. However, how Liverpool prefers to entice the defender and make an official offer in the near future remains to be seen.

A January transfer may not be possible because Sporting are unlikely to want to upset their squad in the middle of the season. As a result, Klopp’s club may have to be patient and wait until the conclusion of the season to sign him.
