After suffering a hamstring injury, the 24-year-old walked out during the Reds’ 3-0 routine win over Aston Villa at Anfield prior to the international break.
Following that, Alexander-Arnold was left out of England’s team for their 2024 Euro qualifier against Ukraine and an international friendly against Scotland. He has appeared in all four league games for Klopp’s side, who now sit third in the table after a strong start to the 2023/24 season.
So far, the England international has contributed one assist as the Reds have accumulated 10 points and are only two points behind league leaders and defending champions Manchester City.
His absence will be a significant blow for Klopp, but Joe Gomez’s good form could help the Merseysiders get through this difficult period, with skipper Virgil van Dijk also set to miss the match at Molineux Stadium due to suspension.
Klopp said at his pre-match press conference on Friday that he hopes Alexander-Arnold will be back in full training as soon as next week, with the UEFA Europa League starting on Thursday.
“There is no cause for alarm. “We knew he wasn’t available before,” the 56-year-old added.
“He hasn’t trained with the team yet and will need some time.” It’s not the worst hamstring injury you can have, but it’s still a hamstring injury, and they don’t recover in two weeks – and this one didn’t either.
“Because he is already running, we hope he can begin ball work early next week, and then we will see and go from there.”
Significant injury boost
However, Liverpool fans were given a significant injury boost when Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez were both declared fit to play against Wolves.
Konate returned to full training with his teammates last week, according to Klopp, and Nunez assured him he is well after experiencing muscular problems while playing for Uruguay in their 2026 South American World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador.
“Thiago is running, but that’s it,” added the German. “Ibou trained with the team for two days.
[Darwin Nunez] ” I hadn’t seen him yet, but we definitely communicated and he said everything was fine, so we’ll see what happens now and make some judgments. Darwin should be all right.
“[Jarell Quansah] trained with us for the entire week, so there was obviously enough time to rest.” Stefan [Bajcetic] had a good camp with the [Spain] U21s, though he only played a few minutes. “I believe that’s it.”
