In response to Mason Greenwood wearing their footwear for the first time in 20 months, Nike

After Mason Greenwood made his Getafe debut while wearing Nike footwear, the company’s position was made known.

On the last day of the transfer window, the 21-year-old Manchester United player agreed a loan deal with La Liga after an internal review determined it would be better for him to continue his career elsewhere.

Numerous teams declined to sign the forward, which gave Getafe the opportunity to make the contentious transfer.

As Getafe defeated Osasuna 3-2 with a late winner, Greenwood, wearing No. 12, made his first appearance on a football field since his arrest in January 2022.

He did so while wearing Nike boots, despite the fact that Nike dropped Greenwood after he was accused of trying to rape a woman, acting in a controlling and coercive manner, and assault causing actual bodily damage.

Even after the Crown Prosecution Service dismissed the charges in February 2023, Nike said that Greenwood was no longer associated with the company.

As a result, Nike has not provided Greenwood with any new boots, and he has been spotted practicing for Getafe while wearing shoes that are seven years old.

The Nike Mercurial Superfly 4 boots he debuted in were the identical ones that were made available as part of the Radiant Reveal set in 2016.

Nike, though, insist that there is absolutely no connection. “The assertion is still accurate. Nike no longer considers Mason Greenwood to be an athlete, a spokeswoman informed GBNews.

A mixed response was received when Greenwood was substituted in for the team in the second half. Getafe supporters reportedly yelled “Greenwood, die” while away end supporters applauded him.

The next EA Sports FC 24 game will feature the England international, but he won’t be part of the Ultimate Team mode, it has been revealed.

He’s anticipated to appear in Football Manager 24 as well.
